Bruce S. Introduction

Our Purpose and Mission
The Walleye Restoration Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to protecting, conserving, and restoring the upper Midwest’s walleye populations. Our mission is to address the decline of walleyes and other fish species in our lakes by providing effective and lasting solutions.

Our Plan for Restoration

To achieve our mission, we implement strategically placed natural, deep water thermocline infrastructure and utilize portable shoreline hatcheries. Our objective is to reintroduce the natural elements that are currently absent from these environments, enabling fish populations to become self-sustaining within four to five years. Once this goal is met, the hatchery can be relocated to another lake in need of restoration.

The Restoration Process
Restoring a lake’s natural ability to support a healthy and sustainable fishery requires education and collaboration among sportsmen, lake associations, and other lake authorities. The Walleye Restoration Foundation is committed to providing this education, but we rely on the support of sportsmen, the fishing industry, the state of Wisconsin, and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). By joining the WRF or simply learning about our processes, we can work together to rehabilitate lakes  and foster healthier ecosystems. Our efforts aim to create a walleye and other species fishery capable of natural reproduction, reducing the need for stocking with fish that may not be genetically suited to the environment. Ultimately, natural reproduction and healthy lakes mean more fish for everyone to enjoy.
