The Problem

  • Very few lakes meet the DNR goal of 3 Walleyes/acre for naturally reproducing lakes or 1.5 walleyes/acre for stocked lakes in the Ceded territory
  • No significant reproduction has been documented from stocked extended growth fingerlings
  • GLIFWC fall shocking surveys show low survival of 0 & 1-year-old fingerling walleyes.
  • 37 lakes in Vilas and Oneida county that previously had naturally reproducing walleye populations showed decline after stocking
  • Only 9 stocked lakes in Vilas and Oneida county meet the goal of 1.5 walleye/ acre
